Dissertation: Characterisation of microscale phytoplankton spatial structure. - 1994. B.Sc. (Hons), 1st class in Marine Biology, University College of North Wales, Bangor, UK. Honours thesis: Observational phytoplankton ecology of Irish Sea summer flora.
Professional Experience
- 2006 – Associate Director, Washington Sea Grant., University of Washington, Seattle, WA. Provide leadership and management of Sea Grant education activities and competitive research awards. Contribute to innovative program of translating research findings into accessible knowledge for stakeholder groups. Assist in strategic planning and Sea Grant program development.
- 2006 – Lecturer, School of Oceanography, University of Washington., Seattle, WA. Co-teach the non-major freshman course, ‘The Changing Ocean’, 400 students.
- 2005 – 2006. Post-doctoral researcher, School of Oceanography, University of Washington, Seattle, WA. Project: Project: Motile behavior of protistan plankton in East Sound, San Juan Islands.
- 2004 – 2005. French Ministry of Research Post-doctoral researcher, Station Marine de Wimereux, France. Project: Biologically-induced variability in seawater viscosity in the Southern Ocean. Position included 7 weeks at sea.
- 2002 – 2004. Program Manager, Primary Health Care Research, Evaluation and Development (PHC RED) Program, Department of General Practice, Flinders University, Adelaide. Coordinated education and outreach program for South Australian Health Care professionals.
- 1999 – 2004. Lecturer and Tutor, Globalisation program (Global Warming Case Study), Flinders University, Adelaide.

- 1996. Phytoplankton/Protozooplankton Biologist, Australian Antarctic Division, Hobart, Australia. Six month position working on a field survey in an unmapped region of the Southern Ocean along the coast of East Antarctic. Position included 11 weeks at sea.
