Experience and Education
Kassakian joined WSG in July 2009. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology (with an environmental concentration) and an Economics minor from Colby College and a Master of Marine Affairs degree from the University of Washington. She has been involved in fisheries research, management and policy issues from a diverse array of platforms including academic scientific research, private sector consulting and environmental non-profit advocacy. As a Dean John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellow, she assisted the House Committee on Natural Resources in the development and implementation of legislation pertaining to fisheries, wildlife and oceans.
Current Activities
- Facilitating mutually beneficial communication and collaboration among the University, NOAA, the State of Washington, tribes and the Seattle-based fishing industry
- Conducting a needs assessment survey to identify priority research and educational areas for relevant stakeholder groups
- Identifying a mechanism for identification of critical problems in fisheries management, and mobilization of shared resources to solve them.
