Bio
Carter R. Newell has been working in marine invertebrate physiology, ecology, inshore oceanography and shellfish cultivation for over 25 years. He received a M.S. in Oceanography at U. Me. in 1982 and a Ph.D. in Marine Biology from the University of New Brunswick at St. John, Canada in 2005. Besides running mussel raft (Mytilus edulis) and oyster (Crassostrea virginica) farms in Maine, he does shellfish aquaculture productive capacity studies involving hydrodynamics, seston depletion, and shellfish growth modelling with Dr. John Richardson of Blue Hill Hydraulics. Recent projects have included studies on benthic and suspended shellfish cultures in Ireland, Washington State, British Columbia and Maine.
