Bio
Glenn R. VanBlaricom received Bachelor of Science degrees in Oceanography and Zoology from the University of Washington in 1972, and a doctorate from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego, in 1978. His research interests and experiences include coastal marine community ecology and conservation biology, with emphases on apex predators, benthic ecosystems, natural and anthropogenic disturbances, and marine mammals. Currently Dr. VanBlaricom is Professor of Marine Mammal Studies in the College of Ocean and Fishery Sciences, University of Washington, and Assistant Leader of the Washington Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, a program of the Biology Discipline of the U.S. Geological Survey. Dr. VanBlaricom teaches courses in marine mammal ecology in the UW School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences (SAFS), and serves as principal advisor to three M.S. and six Ph.D. students in SAFS. He currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Society for Marine Mammalogy, is Chair of the Black Abalone Status Review Team for the National Marine Fisheries Service, and is a past President of the Marine Section of the Society for Conservation Biology.
