DESCRIPTION:$90 for Burke Members\, $100 for General Public \nLocation: Burke Museum \n\nClass Description\nBased at the Burke Museum\, this one-day environmental writing program will include classroom and field-based sessions. Renowned authors Lynn Brunelle\, Claudia Castro Luna\, and Jonathan White have written deeply and provocatively about wild and urban landscapes and provide unique and complementary perspectives as authors. \n\nInstructors\nThese authors have introduced new ways to view nature and develop deeper connections to place; plants and animals\, human inhabitants\, past and present who all dwell on the land. \nLynn Brunelle is an Emmy Award-winning writer for Bill Nye the Science Guy with over 25 years experience writing for people of all ages. Previously a K-12 teacher\, an editor\, an illustrator\, and an award-winning author of over 45 titles\, Brunelle has created\, written\, and developed projects for major publishers and TV stations. \nClaudia Castro Luna has been appointed Washington State Poet Laureate for 2018-2020. She served as Seattle’s first Civic Poet from 2015-2017 and is the author of the poetry collection Killing Marías (Two Sylvias Press) and the chapbook This City (Floating Bridge). Her non fiction essays can be read in This is the Place: Women Writing About Home (Seal Press) and The Wandering Song (Tia Chucha Press). \nJonathan White is an active marine conservationist\, sailor\, and a surfer. His most recent book\, Tides: The Science and Spirit of the Ocean\, won a National Outdoor Book Award and was shortlisted for the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Book Award. He has written for the Christian Science Monitor\, Orion\, and Surfer’s Journal.
