SUMMARY:Literature of the Sea Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Mystic Seaport Museum is proud to present a new program\, the “Literature of the Sea Seminar\,” designed for readers\, writers\, and thinkers of any age\, from late high school to seniors. Over Zoom\, a small group will meet for one hour per week for three weeks to discuss the book Whale Rider by Witi Ihimaera. This classic\, best-selling novel set in Aotearoa New Zealand was later made into a major international film. Whale Rider is a quick read\, but richly compelling as it examines perspectives and issues regarding the indigenous Māori peoples\, female leadership\, magical realism\, and the modern environmental movement\, with a center that swirls around whales and whaling. \nTwo sessions are available: Thursday\, September 10\, 1:00-2:00pm PT and Saturday\, September 12\, 7:00-8:00am PT. \nFor event details and registration\, visit the event webpage. \n
