DESCRIPTION:Want to learn more about our local salmon? Become a Salmon Docent! If you’re a teacher\, you can also earn clock hours through this training. \nIf this event is sold-out\, please add your name to our waitlist here: https://wsu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_86oERH0IOTQbsbP \nSalmon hold ecological\, commercial\, and cultural significance in the Pacific Northwest. Through this 3-part training\, join regional experts to explore how our salmon survive their epic migrations and the challenges that they face in todays changing world. \nAttendees will engage with material through field trips and hands-on activities. Local organizations will share current research findings and provide tangible volunteer opportunities on salmon-focused projects across Kitsap county. \nOur training culminates with the opportunity to become a docent at our annual Kitsap Salmon Tours event (Nov. 9th\, 11am-3pm)\, giving trainees the chance to share what they’ve learned with the public. Attendees who sign up to participate in a 2-hour volunteer shift as a streamside docent will receive a FREE 70-page waterproof Kitsap Salmon Field Guide\, available only to Kitsap Salmon Docents. \n2019 Salmon Docent Training Information: \nDay 1: Salmon species\, life cycle\, and anatomy\nTuesday Oct. 22\, 6-9pm\nLocation: Olympic College\, Bremerton \nDay 2: Southern Resident Killer Whales\, climate change\, and local volunteer opportunities\nWednesday Oct. 23\, 6-9pm\nLocation: Kitsap Mall Community Room\, Silverdale \nDay 3: Field Day- Tour of Grovers Creek Hatchery and exploration of salmon habitat\nSaturday Oct. 26\, 9am-2pm\nLocation: Grovers Creek Hatchery\, Poulsbo \n*More specific directions will be shared with registrants as training approaches \nRegistration:\n$15- Early Bird (Before Sept. 15)\n$20- General (After Sept. 15\nRegistrations will not be refunded after Oct. 10.\nScholarships are available–contact Amy Linhart directly at amy.linhart@wsu.edu for an application. \nSpace is limited so sign up today! \n
