DESCRIPTION: \nThe 2025 Skills and Drills Course is full! This workshop will be offered again in 2026. \nSign up to get notices of future workshops here: https://bit.ly/wsg-email-lists (select “marine workshops”). \nLearn the skills and drills that will help you land a commercial fishing job. \nWashington Sea Grant is sponsoring a two-day Skills and Drills Course for new or beginning commercial fishermen in South Bend\, Washington. \nThis course is geared towards individuals interested in learning the necessary skills to enter the commercial fishing industry. No experience is required. \nThe course will cover the following topics: \n\nBasics of welding\nFiberglass repairs\nVessel handling \nNavigation\nMaintenance of inboard and outboard engines\nFishing gear repair (net mending and knot tying)\nMarine hydraulics\nMarine electronics\nVessel cleaning and safe product handling\n\nWhen: \nThursday\, March 27–Friday\, March 28\, 2025 \n9 a.m. – 6 p.m. \nWhere: \nBendikson Landing \n313 Robert Bush Drive\nSouth Bend\, WA \nWho:  Anyone ages 18 and up who is interested in gaining basic skills that may be required onboard a West Coast commercial fishing vessel.  \nCost: $100. \nPlease contact Robert Maw at rmaw@uw.edu for scholarship information.  \nWhat to bring:  \nWorking clothes\, deck boots and rain jacket (we will be boarding a vessel and may have some outside sessions). Coffee\, lunch\, and all training materials and equipment will be provided. \nSpace is limited to 24 participants.
