SUMMARY:The Ecological Value of Riparian Buffers and Wetlands: A Tour of Fenton Nature Reserve
DESCRIPTION:This Whatcom Land Trust property is home to a gorgeous beaver pond\, extensive forested upland buffers\, wetlands\, and a salmon-bearing stream.  It is one of the largest natural areas in the northern part of the county. At this special tour\, we will learn about the ecological importance of riparian buffers and wetlands from a Land Trust Steward\, a Wetlands Ecologist\, and the North Sound Baykeeper.  This preserve\, near the headwaters of a tributary of Dakota Creek\, is not only stunningly beautiful\, but it also provides vital ecological functions – come learn all about it! \n \nPeople attending the tour will walk along a lightly maintained trail for about one mile; be prepared to walk over some branches and other obstacles. Dress for rain or shine and being outside for a few hours (long pants\, closed-toe shoes\, wet condition footwear\, bugs\, and uneven terrain). \n \nEvent is September 22\, 10:00am-12:00pm.  Parking\, carpooling information\, and exact address will be provided upon registration.  Attendees will be required to sign a liability waiver. \n \nRSVP REQUIRED to Lee First\, leef@re-sources.org or (360) 220-0556 \n
