SUMMARY:Climate Science on Tap: Oysters\, Upwelling and Ocean Acidification
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nWhen infant oysters began dying off in record numbers\, reportedly due to the increased acidification of Pacific Northwest waters\, the Washington State Legislature asked the UW Dept. of Oceanography’s scientists for help. \nParker MacCready\, Ph.D\, a physical oceanographer\, has led a team developing a computer model to forecast the chemistry of ocean waters entering shellfish growing areas\, such as Willapa Bay.  Learn how this work may help oysters and the shellfish industry\, as well as kayakers and oil spill trackers!  Doors open 7:00 pm for the outdoor event in the Peddler’s covered beer garden.  All ages welcome.  Food truck available. \n\n\n\n\n
