SUMMARY:Seminar: Predator-Prey Interactions - The Avian Visual Sensory Perspective
DESCRIPTION:Characterizing the visual system of predators and prey is key to understanding some sensory/cognitive mechanisms involved in predator-prey interactions of visually-oriented animals (e.g.\, visual search\, detection and attack). \nMost of the knowledge on the visual system of predators and prey comes from non-passerine birds. However\, recent research on the order Passeriformes provides new insights into the anatomical and behavioral specializations of the prey and the predator sensory systems to enhance detection in different ecological conditions. \nThis seminar will present these recent findings and synthesize them in the context of predator-prey interactions. \nLecturer: \nDr. Esteban Fernandez-Juricic\nPurdue University\, Professor\, Department of Biological Sciences\nhttp://estebanfj.bio.purdue.edu/ \nSeminar speaker host: \nDr. Ed Melvin\, School of Aquatic & Fishery Sciences \nLocation: Hitchcock Hall (HCK)\, Room 132 \nRefreshments: at 11:45 a.m. \n
