SUMMARY:Hood Canal Public Meeting on Septic Systems Updates
DESCRIPTION:\nHood Canal Group Seeks Fixes for Outdated Septic Systems \nThe Lower Hood Canal Watershed Coalition (LHCWC) will meet Monday\, November 6 to discuss the need to replace cesspool and seepage pit-type septic systems in the area.  These systems use outdated  technology and provide minimal wastewater treatment\, which puts Hood Canal water quality and shellfish beds at risk. \nAt the meeting\, the LHCWC will host water quality expert consultant and Thurston County resident Terry Hull.  Hull previously served as septics specialist for the Puget Sound Action Team and was a key leader in creating the Hood Canal Regional Septic Loan Program\, which has since been integrated into a 20-county Regional Loan Program administered by Washington State Department of Ecology.  He will update LHCWC members and visitors on recent expansion of the Regional Loan Program\, which was designed to serve property owners with a range of incomes and property types\, and engage attendees in discussion of strategies to improve water quality. \nLHCWC is focused on preserving the water quality and quantity in the Hood Canal watershed.  The organization has been concerned about the continued use of seepage pits by shoreline owners in the lower portion of the Canal for many years. \nThe public is invited to attend the November 6 meeting\, which will be held at the North Mason School District Administrative Building from 6pm to 8 pm\, 250 East Campus Drive\, Belfair. \nNOTE:  The School District office has moved up hill to the main campus \n\n\n
