SUMMARY:Climate Science on Tap: Climate Change Impacts in Puget Sound
DESCRIPTION:How is climate change impacting salmon and orca populations of Puget Sound? How will this affect other marine species and human communities? And what’s being done to understand and address this damage? This Climate Science on Tap will examine how the food web of Puget Sound and the wider Salish Sea is being impacted by climate change\, from the plankton to salmon to orcas to all of us. \nFour scientists will weigh in with fascinating presentations followed by an engaging discussion of the climate change impacts to salmon\, whales\, and the broader food web\, as well as what we might expect in the future. The panelists will be Michael Chang\, Climate Adaptation Specialist for the Makah Tribe; Christopher Krembs\, Marine Biologist\, with the WA Dept of Ecology; Iris Kemp\, Ecologist for Long Live the Kings; Lynne Barre\, National Oceanographic\, and Atmospheric Association. The event will be moderated by P. Sean McDonald with the University of Washington’s Program on the Environment and researcher with the School of Aquatic and Marine Science. \nSupport science\, learn what is known and needs to be learned\, as well as what you can do. It’s always fun having dinner from the food truck and a beer at Peddlers! Free and all ages welcome! \nOrganized by Cascadia Climate Action in collaboration with some of the terrific staff of UW Program on the Environment\, Long Live the Kings\, NOAA\, Makah Tribe\, and Washington Dept of Ecology’s Marine Water Quality Division. \n
