SUMMARY:Drill Instructor and Fisherman First Aid and Safety Training in Westport
DESCRIPTION:Washington Sea Grant is holding a combined Drill Instructor (DI) and Fisherman First Aid and Safety Training (FFAST) for commercial Fishermen on May 15-16 in Westport. \nThis Coast Guard-approved workshop meets the training requirements of the Commercial Fishing Safety Act to conduct drills. Coursework combines lectures and hands-on experience with the safety and survival equipment that is now required for commercial fishing vessels. Participants will learn about emergency procedures and will be trained to develop appropriate emergency drills for their own vessels. \nThe FFAST course provides essential first aid training and meets the stringent requirements of the U.S. Coast Guard for onboard first aid training. It is a valuable complement to the U.S. Coast Guard-required “Drill Conductor Course\,” where fishermen learn how to conduct safety drills regularly to prepare the crew for emergencies. \nWhen:\nMay 15-16\, 2025\n8 a.m.–6 p.m. \nWhere:\n2200 Nyhus St N\, Westport\, WA 98595 \nFee:\n$150 ($75 for commercial fishermen) \nParticipants must register by May 13. Register online here. \nFor more details\, including scholarship information\, contact Robert Maw\, rmaw@uw.edu. \n### \nBased at the University of Washington\, Washington Sea Grant provides statewide marine research\, outreach\, and education services. The National Sea Grant College Program is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration\, U.S. Department of Commerce. wsg.uw.edu \n
