This series will be facilitated by Derek Parks\, Technology Transfer Program Manager. \nWebinar ONLY: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/8960343963276030977 \nSpeaker: Vera Trainer\, NOAA’s Northwest Fisheries Science Center\, Research Oceanographer \nAbstract: SoundToxins is a diverse partnership of aquaculture businesses\, federal\, tribal\, state\, and local governments\, education institutions\, and Puget Sound residents that monitor for harmful algae to alert health and natural resource agencies of their abundance. The complimentary online database allows for near-real time viewing of “traffic-light” maps. This partnership has helped to minimize the risks to human health and reducing the economic losses to Puget Sound fisheries since its formation in 2006. \nAbout the Speaker: Vera Trainer is a supervisory oceanographer at NOAA’s Northwest Fisheries Science Center in Seattle\, Washington\, USA. Her current research on harmful algal blooms focuses on the assessment of climatic factors that influence toxic bloom development and understanding susceptibility of shellfish and marine mammals to toxins in their environment.
