DESCRIPTION:The Shoreline & Coastal Planners Group is offering an all-day workshop on the Point Ruston development\, including smelter history and cleanup\, public access amenities\, shoreline permitting\, sea level rise considerations\, a walking tour\, and more. \nParticipants will: \n\nLearn about the history of the Asarco smelter and cleanup efforts.\nUnderstand how the Point Ruston redevelopment balanced the cleanup with development and public access.\nHear from staff at local and state government agencies involved in the planning and permitting of Point Ruston developments.\nHear about past and present shoreline stabilization challenges at Dune Peninsula Park.\nLearn how Metro Parks Tacoma staff incorporated sea level rise into the design of Owen Beach Park.\nTake a guided walking tour of the Owen Beach redevelopment\, Point Ruston public recreation area\, and Dune Peninsula Park.\n\nRegistration is limited to 55 attendees.
