I took a trip to Newport, OR to participate in the Oregon Tsunami Conference, December 3-4, 2018. Highlights included a visit to the not wisely situated Hatfield Marine Science Center; great talks, and getting to know some of my Oregon Sea Grant colleagues. Mona Barnes, soon to be ex-director of U.S. Virgin Islands Emergency Management, gave an inspiring talk about how the islands coped with back-to-back hurricanes last year. I also got to know my Oregon Sea Grant colleagues. Pat Corcoran drove home the challenges of public outreach regarding tsunami awareness, and Cait Goodwin shared some of the success of their Tsunami Quests. I’m looking forward to future collaborations with with OSG!
