Seaweed Farming Introductory Workshop

This one-time event was held on November 20, 2019.  There are currently no plans to offer a second workshop.

This free online workshop provided participants with an overview of seaweed farming in Washington State.

Hosted by Washington Sea Grant, in partnership with the Puget Sound Restoration Fund, Hood Canal Mariculture and the NOAA WDVA Veterans Conservation Corps Internship Program. Topics included:

  • Suitable species for cultivation in Washington waters
  • Factors to consider
  • Operating a seaweed farm in Washington State
  • A survey of potential markets

This webinar-based workshop was broadcast live from Pacific Lutheran University. Veterans and active-duty military personnel were invited to attend in person and learn about additional seaweed farming programming and benefits offered through the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs.

Topics introduced at this workshop will be covered in-depth at a multi-day, Seattle-based Intensive Seaweed Farming Training the week of February 3, 2020. Only individuals who attended the November workshop (in-person or online), OR review the archived recordings will be eligible to apply for this multi-day training.

Funding for this workshop was provided by the National Sea Grant College Program, with additional support from the NOAA WDVA Veterans Conservation Corps Internship Program. Also sponsored by the Pacific Lutheran University Center for Military Support.

       

 

February 2020 Intensive Workshop

An intensive training for people SERIOUSLY interested in seaweed in WASHINGTON STATE.

This 3 to 4-day training will be held in the Seattle area, beginning on February 3rd, 2020. Participation is by application only; click here to access the online application. Applications are due by 5pm on January 10, 2020.

All applications must have either attended the November 2019 Introductory Workshop OR have reviewed the recorded workshop presentations, which are available here.
