Bellingham Bay Cleanup, Public Access, and Shoreline Development Workshop

The Shoreline & Coastal Planners Group is offering an all-day workshop and walking tour on the cleanup and redevelopment of Bellingham Bay, focusing on the work of the Bellingham Bay Action Team (BBAT). This workshop will highlight Bellingham Bay history and cleanup efforts, nearshore habitat improvements, public access amenities, shoreline permitting, sea level rise considerations, and partnerships across agencies through presentations and site visits.
Participants will:
- Learn about the history of industrial development in Bellingham Bay and cleanup efforts coordinated by the Bellingham Bay Action Team.
- Understand how Bellingham Bay redevelopment sites are balancing cleanup with development, public access, and nearshore habitat improvements.
- Hear from staff at local and state government agencies and private-sector firms involved in the planning, design, and permitting of Bellingham Bay projects.
- Hear about past and present shoreline stabilization challenges at park sites.
- Learn how engineers incorporate sea level rise into park site plans.
- Take a guided tour of redevelopment sites on the Bellingham Bay downtown waterfront.
