Kitsap Salmon Docents

Salmon are iconic in our region and influence much of how we manage our waters and landscape. The Kitsap Salmon Docents (or Salmon Stewards) program evolved from a need for local individuals to have more information to share about salmon with the hundreds of people who attend salmon-related events annually in Kitsap County. Docents learn about salmon habitat, life cycle, and species in the Puget Sound, as well as their cultural and ecological importance to our region and the human dimensions that affect them. The program is a collaboration between WSU Kitsap Extension and Washington Sea Grant and is supported by Clean Water Kitsap, Kitsap County, Suquamish Tribe, WSG, and numerous other partners. WSG’s Jeff Adams also actively participates in the training and activities of the Vashon Beach Naturalists. To learn more, contact Jeff Adams at jaws@uw.edu.
