Northwest Curious: Meet the Authors of Heaven on the Half Shell

April 26, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm

Meet the authors of Heaven on the Half Shell: The Story of the Oyster in the Pacific Northwest at this online event hosted by the King County Library System.

Fully updated and chock-full of “oysterabilia,” this book covers the rich history of our region’s beloved bivalve industry.

The authors shine a light on the native and non-native farmers who have have kept the oyster harvest sustainable for thousands of years, including major contributions from Japanese immigrants prior to World War II. Readers will also be delighted by the book’s carefully selected recipes, both historic and contemporary, from the region’s top chefs.

David George Gordon is author of 22 books on topics ranging from slugs and snails to sharks and gray whales. He previously served as science writer for Washington Sea Grant. Samantha Larson is science writer at Washington Sea Grant. MaryAnn Barron Wagner is the lead for communications at Washington Sea Grant.
