Run with the Chums 5k Run/Walk
September 16, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 pm
FreeRun with the Chums is a fun and free event for all ages as part of Whatcom Water Week. Run or walk on a scenic loop through the highlands above Cherry Point Aquatic Reserve and Point Whitehorn and learn more about watershed health while taking care of your own health! The route explores forested trails, opening up to coastal views, and finishing through agricultural land to demonstrate the wide variety of resources we have here in Whatcom County. From mountains to sea, we all rely on clean, fresh water for drinking, productive farmland, healthy fisheries, outdoor recreation and safe shellfish harvesting. Let’s celebrate and get healthy in the process!
Registration is free and the first 300 participants will receive a free event t-shirt! A kid’s 1k Smolt Sprint –featuring an obstacle course this year – will start at 10 am and all racers will receive a ribbon.
Festivities before and after the race include refreshments, watershed information exhibits, kid’s activities, and water conservation prizes. Be sure and stay for the raffle following the 5k! Exhibitors include: Chums of Terrell Creek, Whatcom Conservation District, Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association, Birch Bay Water and Sewer District, Birch Bay Watershed & Aquatic Resources Management District, and more.
