Youth Ocean Conservation Summit

October 7, 2017 @ 9:30 am - 4:00 pm

$20

Care about the ocean? Then join our Summit and learn how to protect it.

The Youth Ocean Conservation Summit – hosted for the first time at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium – is a collaboration with Seattle Aquarium to help and inspire Puget Sound youth to take action about the ocean.

Students in grades 7-12 with an interest in conservation, environmental science, or marine science will learn from local experts and work with their fellow youth to develop the skills necessary to plan and execute their own ocean conservation projects.

WHO’S AT THE SUMMIT?
We’ll have a keynote speaker, local youth to tell you about their own conservation projects, and experts leading workshops on topics including social media, art as a tool for conservation, grant writing and funding, government advocacy and more.

The Summit is co-hosted by youth volunteers from Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and Seattle Aquarium.

WHAT DO I GET OUT OF IT?
You’ll leave with an action plan to carry out your own conservation project in the community. Past Summits have inspired research on microplastics, new recycling bins on beaches and a poster campaign against cigarette butt litter. You’ll also have the opportunity – and the know-how – to apply for grants of up to $200 to help fund your project.

Cost: $20. Lunch and program materials will be provided.
Space is limited to the first 100 students.
