The Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP) is honored to host the United States’ First Biennial National Tribal and Indigenous Climate Conference (NTICC) along with support from the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Tribal Resilience Program. The International Coastal Cleanup began more than 30 years ago, when communities rallied together with the common goal of collecting and documenting the trash littering their coastline. Volunteers from states and territories throughout the U.S. and more than 100 countries come together each year and participate in a Cleanup event near them. Join WSU Extension in a beach clean-up at Howarth Park! Meet in the parking lot. Bring heavy garden or work gloves, an old 5-gallon bucket and pickers if you have them. If not, we can provide them for you. Remember to dress for the weather and the soggy shoreline. Most trash is above the wrack line, so you shouldn’t be in the water. However, beaches do have fresh water streams that may need to be crossed.

Join Puget Soundkeeper on a kayak patrol as we monitor pollution and prevent debris from contaminating our waterways! While on patrol, we keep an eye out for abnormal discharges and oil slicks while removing debris that accumulates in the waters of Lake Union. Volunteers will be outfitted in double kayaks and paddle to a designated area of Lake Union to monitor water pollution and remove trash.
