Recreational Crab Openings

Recreational crab fishing season openings for Dungeness and Red Rock Crab: Opens: 7:00am July 15, 2016 Marine Area 7 South - San Juan Islands/Bellingham Marine Area 9 Admiralty Inlet -- The portion of Marine Area 9 north of the Hood Canal Bridge to the line connecting Foulweather Bluff and Olele Point  Once opened, crab fishing will be allowed Thursdays through Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays will be closed. For more information on crab season openings go to Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Geoduck Festival – Allyn, WA

It’s all about geoducks from 9 a.m.-8 p.m., including the 250-yard Geoduck Mud Run. There will be plenty of geoduck dishes served up, thanks to a donation from Taylor Shellfish and the efforts of area restaurants. Danny Vernon will wrap up the day with his “Illusion of Elvis” performance. Where: Allyn, on state Route 3 between Shelton and Belfair.

Shoreline restoration monitoring: Bainbridge

This is a great opportunity to get in involved in citizen science and learn first hand about shoreline restoration efforts in the Puget Sound. Volunteers are needed to collect data that monitors shoreline restoration progress on the Powel Property on north Bainbridge Island. Monitoring activities will consist of collecting physical profiles of the environment and plant/critter densities and collecting additional data that complement a region-wide University of Washington research project and continue to contribute valuable information to our understanding of the…
