Overview

This fellowship focuses on advancing responsible marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) in the Salish Sea by ensuring that scientific models used to track and verify carbon removal are informed by the people most affected by them.

The Fellow will bring together Tribal rightsholders, coastal communities, environmental justice organizations, resource managers, and scientists to share perspectives, build trust, and shape how mCDR monitoring and modeling tools are developed and used. A central part of the role is planning and leading a regional community convening, supported by meaningful outreach before the event and sustained engagement afterward.

The work emphasizes transparency, relevance, and long-term collaboration so that emerging climate solutions align with local values, priorities, and concerns. Through this experience, the Fellow will gain deep exposure to cutting-edge ocean science, community-engaged research, and a broad professional network across the U.S. and Canada.
