Experience and Education
Alison joined the Washington Sea Grant communications team in November 2023. In her current role, she supports the team through project development and coordination in a variety of spheres, from social media to web content and more.
Alison holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Carleton College and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Washington’s Evans School. She spent her early career holding editorial and product development roles in children’s nonfiction publishing, which trained her to communicate complex material for a range of audiences and reading levels. She has since held roles in local government and nonprofit communications and program management.
Alison’s master’s thesis focused on using community-based research to develop a sea level rise public engagement strategy for the City of Westport, Washington. Pivoting into public service has enabled her to apply her passion for clear, engaging communication to projects and programs that benefit everyone. She is especially drawn to projects that focus on environmental literacy, access, and sustainable usage and conservation.
Alison moved to Seattle from her home state of Minnesota in 2021. She enjoys hiking, baking, and knitting, and is always a member of at least one book club.
