Bridget Trosin

Coastal Policy Specialist

Expertise

  • Marine spatial planning
  • Engaging communities on Washington’s outer coast
  • Integrated ecosystem assessment

Bridget Trosin began working on marine spatial planning for Washington’s outer coast as a 2011 Marc Hershman Marine Policy Fellow. As WSG’s staff coastal policy specialist, she has continued to coordinate an independent scientific review, facilitate planning meetings and perform public outreach for the MSP effort. Her portfolio has expanded to include the state King Tide Project and boating programs outreach.

Bridget helps build comprehensive understanding of the interactions and relationships between human, ecological, and economic resources along Washington’s outer coast. In order to support more sustainable use of those resources, she develops outreach programs for a diverse group of community members, coastal organizations, and local, tribal, state and federal governments. Bridget also coordinates the marine spatial planning science committee, a group of experts charged with reviewing marine spatial planning data and science in order to recommend statewide best practices to the State Ocean Caucus and Washington Coastal Marine Advisory Council.

Bridget’s passion for involving local communities in marine management was ignited by her thesis research on subsistence fishing communities in the Philippines. Her experience building relationships with coastal communities makes her a valuable part of team efforts to develop state-level indicators of human wellbeing for Washington’s integrated ecosystem assessment process. This project works to understand how changes in natural resources or marine management practices can affect humans, ecosystems, and the relationships between them.

Bridget holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Biology from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in Marine Affairs from the University of Washington, School of Marine and Environmental Affairs.
