State of the Oyster Study
State of the Oyster Study volunteers invite you to join them to look at bacterial contamination on privately owned beaches in Hood Canal and throughout Puget Sound. Samples will be tested for fecal coliform ($25 per test) and/or Vibrio parahaemolyticus ($30 per test). Results will be delivered by phone 10 days after test dates. When infant oysters began dying off in record numbers, reportedly due to the increased acidification of Pacific Northwest waters, the Washington State Legislature asked the UW Dept. of Oceanography’s scientists for help. Parker MacCready, Ph.D, a physical oceanographer, has led a team developing a computer model to forecast the chemistry of ocean waters entering shellfish growing areas, such as Willapa Bay. ORCAS 2016: International Conference on Energy Conversion and Storage
