Kids’ Day Volunteers

Arrival Times for Each Session

All volunteer tour guides must be at the grounds for check-in, orientation and a tour of the stations as follows:

  • Morning session: 8:15 AM
  • Afternoon session: 11:15 AM

Stations and rotation schedule may change from year to year. Therefore, even if you are a returning volunteer, please be sure to attend the orientation and tour of stations! Session volunteers may leave as follows:

  • Morning session: starting at 11:45 AM
  • Afternoon session: starting at 2:45 PM

Parking

Plenty of free parking is available just outside the main grounds gate. No parking will be allowed inside the gate after the event begins.

Lunch

Lunch for all Kids’ Day volunteers will be served in the volunteer tent at 11:30 AM. Hot coffee and tea will be available throughout the day also.

Duties

Volunteer tour guide duties include leading groups of 10–12 students through the stations according to the schedule provided. You may need to help keep students focused on the presentation from time-to-time, but we have asked chaperones to do this.

Sign-in and T-shirts

All volunteers must sign in upon arrival. You will be given a commemorative t-shirt to wear during (and after!) the event that identifies you as an official Kids’ Day at OysterFest volunteer.

Appropriate Dress

Kids’ Day is a rain or shine event. At times, you will be outdoors, so please dress for the weather! Also, as a volunteer tour guide, you will be required to walk from station to station and may be standing on concrete at times, so wear comfortable, durable shoes.

Routine for the Day

After you sign in, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and a donut before the orientation and tour of stations. During the orientation you will choose a school sign that corresponds with student name tags (color and animal) and receive a schedule for that group.

After touring the stations, all volunteers will meet the buses at the main event gate and collect the students that have name tags matching your sign. Begin at the station noted on your schedule as your first stop. A horn will blow to signal time to leave for the next station on your schedule. Please do not leave your station early!

After guiding students through all 10 stations, lead your group out to the west entrance gate where the buses will pick up students. Please return the school/animal signs to the volunteer tent before you leave.
