Washington Sea Grant offering seafood HACCP training in South Bend this spring

WSG fisheries specialist Brandii O’Reagan is holding two basic Seafood Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) trainings at WSG’s Bendiksen Landing office in South Bend this spring. The training will be held in person March 26-27 and May 28-29.

In late September, the molt from a European green crab was found at Similk Beach, on the northern end of the Swinomish Tribal Reservation. This was the first detection of the highly invasive species in the northern Whidbey Basin, which includes Skagit Bay.

Funding and Fellowships

Washington Sea Grant Graduate Science Communications Fellowship

WSG fellows work for two academic quarters on a range of communications projects, from writing articles for the Sea Star newsletter to developing web content. Fellows are given the opportunity to develop their portfolios as writers and communicators, building bridges between scientific information and public understanding.

Washington Applied Sustainability Intership

The Washington Applied Sustainability Internship (WASI) is an undergraduate summer internship program designed to link dedicated engineering, chemistry, sustainability and environmental sciences students with business and industry in Washington. Interns research identified pollution prevention opportunities at a host business to analyze, recommend, and/or implement process changes.

Washington Sea Grant Keystone Fellowship

The WSG Keystone Fellowship aims to create pathways into marine-related careers for individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences and broaden participation in these fields. The program’s goal is to cultivate the next generation of marine and coastal science and policy leaders who are representative of the full spectrum of Washington state communities.

Washington Sea Grant Coastal Resilience Fellowship

The WSG Coastal Resilience Fellowship offers a unique educational opportunity for early or shifting career professionals to provide additional capacity for coastal communities around coastal resilience. Highly motivated, qualified individuals are teamed with mentors in a host office for two years, working on coastal resilience-related projects.

Washington Sea Grant Hershman Fellowship

The WSG Hershman Fellowship offers a unique educational opportunity for soon-to-graduate or recently finished graduate students engaged in studies pertaining to ocean and coastal policy issues. The fellowship offers students first-hand experiences in crafting marine and natural resource policies and allows them to share their academic expertise with their host offices.
