WSG Director update: Our federal funding status

On Friday, April 11, news outlets began reporting on the Trump Administration’s proposal to make deep cuts to NOAA funding, including completely eliminating NOAA’s Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR). Uncertainties around the continuation of federal funding have now grown significantly, causing concern for the future of our program.

Funding and Fellowships

Washington Sea Grant 2025 Request for Proposals

Washington Sea Grant (WSG) requests proposals for the funding cycle beginning February 1, 2026. Research must address issues of importance in Washington’s marine and coastal waters.

Letters of intent deadline: February 25, 2025

Full Proposal Deadline: April 22, 2025

Host a WSG Hershman Fellow

The WSG Hershman Fellowship program welcomes state, tribal and federal agencies and nonprofit organizations based in Washington state to host a WSG Hershman Fellow. Interested host offices are invited to submit an application to WSG. On the WSG Hershman Fellowship page, scroll down to “Information for Hosts.”

Washington Sea Grant Hershman Fellowship

A unique educational opportunity for soon-to-finish graduate students engaged in studies pertaining to ocean and coastal policy issues, this one-year, paid marine policy fellowship matches highly motivated, qualified individuals with host agencies, nonprofits or tribes throughout Washington state.
