It’s almost the new year, and our beautiful 2026 Washington Sea Grant calendar is here! If you would like to receive a calendar, please fill out this form: bit.ly/wsg-mailing-list
A favorite tradition at WSG, our calendar shares both the work of local artists and the ways in which WSG serves you. We have been honored the last two years to present the work of Alfredo Arreguín, whose bright colors, detailed patterns and natural imagery make him one of the preeminent artists of our time.
Born in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico, Arreguín emigrated to Seattle in 1956 and earned his BA and MFA from the UW. His work blends multiple sources of inspiration, from Mexican folk art to Pacific Northwest iconography, including salmon, orcas and the sea. “I love diversity in nature. I appreciate the difference in colors on people, animals and flowers,” Arreguín said. He shared a studio in North Seattle with his wife, Susan Lytle, until he passed away in April 2023.
