Announcing the River & Ocean Film Festival Photo Contest

Forks, WA – The River & Ocean Film Festival returns in 2024 to celebrate the freshwater and marine environments on the west side of the Olympic Peninsula. On October 18 in Forks, Washington, short films from the peninsula and beyond will showcase the region’s beauty and opportunities as well as the issues facing its aquatic habitats and human communities.

In anticipation of the festival, the River & Ocean Film Festival is launching a photo contest. The winning photo will be featured on the festival’s promotional poster.   

Photo submissions are now being accepted. See guidelines for the contest below. The deadline for submissions is August 15, 2024. 

Contest guidelines: 

  • Photos should feature riverine, coastal, or ocean scenes/wildlife and/or present social and cultural connections to the Washington coast.
  • Limit of five photo entries per person.
  • For multiple entries, please use a consistent naming convention; e.g., file name “mcgreal_01” for the first photo submission.
  • Please provide some information about the location your photo(s) show.
  • As the winning photo will appear on this year’s festival poster, please indicate how you would like your name to appear should your photo be selected.

Please send submissions to Brian McGreal at bcmgreal@uw.edu. Photo submissions will be judged and a winner chosen by the North Pacific Coast Marine Resources Committee.
