We are proud to share that Karen Morrill-McClure (they/them), computer systems administrator at Washington Sea Grant, was nominated for the University of Washington Together We Will Award.
The nomination was submitted on behalf of the UW-IT Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Community of Practice organizing group members. Here’s the nomination:
“When we were first launching the UW-IT DEI CoP, Karen stepped into a crucial role as a trusted and essential mentor. They had already been instrumental in forming the Washington Sea Grant DEI Workgroup and wanted to help make a bigger impact for all IT professionals across UW. Karen played a foundational role in establishing the DEI CoP by sharing examples of how to curate events, build relationships with community members across the campus, and embody the best practices of equity-focused events. Karen has helped us lead the way this year by crafting and co-authoring a Black Lives Matter statement with UW-IT leadership. Karen continues to contribute material and facilitate DEI conversations for our book club and monthly events which attract participants from all across UW campus! Karen’s passion and experience in race and social justice issues help empower our grassroots group to engage our peers in tough and uncomfortable conversations about race.”
Congratulations, Karen!
