Wei Ying Wong, a social scientist by training, focuses on engaging stakeholders in conservation. She is committed to supporting inclusive discourses and socially-just environmental policies, and dismantling the systems of power and privilege in the conservation, science and environmental arenas.

Prior to joining Washington Sea Grant, Wei Ying had been supporting the efforts of zoos and aquariums to integrate social science in conservation, facilitate participation in conservation behavior, and develop frameworks for institutional conservation culture and measurement. She is active in the industry-wide effort to transition zoos and aquariums into catalysts for social change.

Wei Ying earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in environmental studies from Brown University, during which time she also learned to scuba dive. Currently she resides in Seattle and enjoys exploring the amazing Pacific Northwest region with her cats and dog.
